Microsoft to upskill 5000 public sector workers

Microsoft has launched an initiative to upskill 5000 Australian public sector workers with critical cloud computing skills by 2020.

The company will work with its training partners DDLS, New Horizons and Advanced Training to participate in subsidised, specialised cloud computing courses.

The partners aim to train an initial 800 workers over the next three months. A nine-module training program will run across Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide.

The course will be designed specifically for public sector workers, will accommodate employees at all skill levels and will target workers across the public sector ecosystem, including government partners, system integrators and independent software vendors.

Skills covered will include integrating on-premise core infrastructure with Microsoft’s Azure cloud service, moving, transforming and analysing cloud data, design and development skills and operationalising cloud analytics solutions.

The project follows Microsoft’s recent partnership with Canberra Data Centres to host two Azure data centres in the ACT that have been specifically designed for mission-critical infrastructure and government workloads.

“This training promises organisational agility, better delivery of services and faster insights from government data, which will help transform the Australian public sector by providing a better experience for citizens,” Microsoft Australia Managing Director Steven Worrall said.

“Migrating from legacy platforms to the cloud is not trivial, so the specialised program we have put together will equip public sector developers and system engineers with cloud-ready skills to design and build digital solutions and deliver their agency transformation initiatives.”
