Department of Home Affairs launches new Citizen Ceremony Portal

Pegasystems has announced the launch of an improved Australian Citizenship Ceremony Portal with the Australian Department of Home Affairs powered by Pega’s automation platform.

The Portal modernises one of the nation’s most meaningful moments — the conferral of Australian citizenship — by streamlining the administrative processes for councils and departmental staff. It addresses key challenges presented by running and coordinating large-scale events across Australia. By centralising data, the local councils and departmental staff that run these ceremonies benefit from simplified scheduling, better access to data, and improved attendee management.

The Citizenship Ceremony Portal represents an important component of Australia’s broader digital government strategy, which aims to create more responsive, efficient and citizen-centred public services.

The implementation leverages Pega Platform to create a flexible, user-friendly interface that can be easily adapted as policies or procedures evolve. As the Department of Home Affairs continues to refine and expand the portal’s capabilities, the new solution stands as a compelling example of how thoughtful digital transformation can honour tradition while embracing innovation as well as providing a solid foundation for the future, Pega says.

“The Department of Home Affairs continues to be a beacon of digital best practice for government globally, as it continues to further strengthen its internal Pega capability,” said Doug Averill, vice president, global industry market leader, government, Pega. “This initiative exemplifies how the Department of Home Affairs and Pega are driving real outcomes together.”

“Delivery of this first stage lays the foundational building blocks allowing the Department the opportunity to futureproof our technical platforms, continuing our technology modernisation journey,” said Jakub Bartkowiak, chief technology officer, Department of Home Affairs.
