Level35 using Watson to revamp project management

Melbourne start-up Level35 is using IBM’s Watson cognitive computing platform to help public-sector project managers better communicate within major government agencies.

Level35 uses Watson and the IBM Cloud to provide its flagship OneViewPPM cloud-based project portfolio management platform.

Watson’s Tone Analyzer Service evaluates the tone of status reports written by project managers to help identify projects that may be on the verge of crisis.

The platform is in use by government agencies including the Victorian Department of Economic Development, Jobs Transport and Resources, and Level35 has also signed up the Department of Health and Human Resources as a customer.

“With Watson, we’ve been able to positively disrupt the very fundamentals of project management in a way that we never imagined when we began building OneViewPPM,” Level35 co-founder and managing director James Gumley said.

“A typical project office manager may have to consume over 100 reports a week — a burden we had already tackled by streamlining data gathering and input processes for project managers. By making reports clear and concise... you strengthen collaboration, streamline workflows and take out many of the miscommunications which can frustrate a project’s timely progress.”

Level35 was named a top five finalist in IBM’s Global Entrepreneur Program last year for its innovative approach to project management.
