Trend Micro gets key US certification for Cloud One

Trend Micro has secured a key US federal-wide government compliance program certification for its Cloud One for Government security suite, which the company believes has important implications for the platform’s adoption in Australia.

The company has obtained FedRAMP Authorisation to Operate status for the platform, meaning it has been closely examined for compliance with the high standards adopted by the US public sector.

Trend Micro Vice-President for Commercial ANZ Ashley Watkins said FedRAMP certification is a proven model of cloud security certification that can be adapted to the Australian context.

“By leveraging the insights gained from FedRAMP’s implementation, the Australian Government can enhance the development of its own cloud security framework, tailoring it to meet local needs and requirements,” he said. “This can enable the government not only to meet but also surpass the Essential Eight standards, which are the priority cybersecurity mitigation strategies developed by the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD). These strategies include application control, patching, user application hardening and multifactor authentication, designed to safeguard internet-connected information technology networks.”

Watkins added that ensuring a common baseline for security measures will be critical to enhancing collaboration and interoperability among countries, particularly among the Five Eyes nations of Australia, New Zealand, the US, the UK and Canada.

The Cloud One For Government platform offers capabilities including security for user endpoints, servers, data centres and cloud workloads capable of detecting and preventing across a wide range of vulnerabilities, malware and unauthorised changes.
