Final concrete poured for Macquarie Data Centres' newest Sydney data centre
NSW Treasurer Daniel Mookhey today poured the final concrete on Macquarie Data Centres’ newest 47 MW facility, IC3 Super West, marking the completion of its external structure — a major milestone towards its opening scheduled for September 2026.
IC3 Super West will be the only data centre to add new AI capacity to Sydney’s north zone in 2026. With all the end-state power already secured, the facility is being purpose-built to meet the growing demands from hyperscalers, enterprise and neoclouds for GPU and high-performance computing capacity in the Tier 1 hub.
The project is supporting over 2400 construction, design and fit-out jobs. When operating, the data centre will support hundreds of permanent jobs in data storage and processing, cybersecurity, as well as facility management and maintenance jobs, including specialist energy and water tradespeople.
The NSW Government’s recently inaugurated Investment Delivery Authority, created to support projects like IC3 Super West, has sent a clear signal to industry of the state government’s intent to accelerate growth in technology and make Sydney a leading regional hub for AI, cloud and digital innovation.
“IC3 Super West will follow Macquarie’s longstanding strategy of building and operating data centres that are designed to deliver highly secure physical and digital environments. Like our broader portfolio, it will be an attractive home for global hyperscalers, government and critical infrastructure providers,” said Macquarie Government Managing Director Aidan Tudehope.
“IC3 Super West is the next data centre in our pipeline of sites planned to add about 200 MW of AI and cloud capacity in Sydney,” said Macquarie Data Centres’ Group Executive, David Hirst. “Demand for high-density AI infrastructure is the most significant megatrend we’ve seen in our 25 years in the data centre industry. IC3 Super West, opening in Q3 2026, is purpose-built for the high-density power and liquid cooling demands of new AI technology. Sovereign data centres keep Australia competitive in the global market and are the foundation of our AI future.”
IC3 Super West is the third facility to be built at the company’s 65 MW Macquarie Park Data Centre Campus in Sydney’s north zone and is designed to support a hybrid mix of air and liquid cooling for direct-to-chip, high-density AI and cloud workloads. Phase 1 of the build is a ~$350 million investment and will deliver the complete core and shell with 6 MW of IT load fitted out. The new data centre will be suitable for government certification and will add to Australian critical infrastructure in the data storage and processing sector.
