Gavin Slater steps down as DTA CEO

Gavin Slater will leave his role as CEO of the Digital Transformation Agency at the end of the month after just over a year in the job.

Slater joined the DTA in May last year from NAB, where he drove the bank’s digital transformation area in roles including CFO and COO for the bank’s core business areas.

He replaced interim CEO Nerida O’Loughlin, who had been selected to replace Paul Shetler in 2015 after the DTA rebranded from the old Digital Transformation Office. Shetler was relegated to the post of chief digital officer of the new agency before he himself stepped down in November 2016.

During Slater’s tenure, the DTA developed the digital identity framework and established a Digital Investment Management Office to advise ministers on ICT investments.

“It has been a privilege and an honour to lead the government’s digital transformation during this period, making information and services for all Australians simple, clear and fast,” Slater said.

Slater will be replaced with Deputy Australian Statistician and ABS COO Randall Brugeaud from 1 July.

Brugeaud has also held roles across the public and private sectors, including CIO of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.

“I am confident that Mr Brugeaud’s knowledge of the challenges and opportunities of digital transformation, combined with an ability to work effectively across government, make him ideal to lead the DTA as it develops and grows into its next phase,” Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Digital Transformation Michael Keenan said.
