DTA announces inaugural Federal Government Innovation Week

The Digital Transformation Agency has announced it is sponsoring the inaugural Federal Government Innovation Week and Showcase, delivered in partnership with the Public Sector Network.

Hosted at the National Convention Centre on 11–12 November 2025, Government Innovation Week Federal provides a platform for the Australian Public Service (APS), industry and thought leaders to collaborate in driving better outcomes for all Australians.

The DTA says attendees will have the opportunity to examine how emerging technologies can enhance the design and delivery of services for the community. They will hear directly from experts and decision-makers across government reflecting on progress they’ve made through implementing innovative solutions.

“Sessions like Government Innovation Week are valuable opportunities to bring the APS together to consider how we can shape the next generation of government services,” said Chris Fechner, CEO of the DTA. “It is about equipping agencies to adapt, to grow and to deliver better outcomes for Australians in a rapidly changing digital landscape.”

Strong digital services remain at the heart of government innovation. A focus of the week will be the continuing effort to make government services more accessible and inclusive. Case studies will show how user-centred design is helping agencies deliver experiences that are simpler, clearer and more consistent for Australians.

The program will also highlight how agencies are preparing the APS for a technology-driven future. Presentations and discussions will examine how leaders are anticipating shifts in workforce demand, designing pathways to build capability, and supporting staff to adapt to opportunities created by artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.

Modernisation and AI in focus

Speakers will share practical examples of how ethical frameworks are guiding the use of artificial intelligence across government. These sessions will demonstrate how agencies are applying principles in real settings, drawing on feedback and collaboration to ensure AI strengthens services while maintaining trust and transparency.

Agencies will also discuss the work underway to modernise legacy systems and build platforms that are resilient at scale. Alongside this, examples of data-driven decision-making will demonstrate how insights are shaping service improvements and enabling more responsive government.

The DTA is excited to support the Public Sector Network’s Federal Government Innovation Week and Showcase.

“By supporting Government Innovation Week Federal, the DTA is reinforcing its role as a steward of digital government,” Fechner said. “This upcoming event will be a chance to bring people together, strengthen capability, and focus on delivering services that work for all people and businesses.”
