DTA publishes myGov onboarding guidance for agencies
The Digital Transformation Agency has announced that it has published new myGov onboarding guidance from Services Australia on digital.gov.au, marking the first individual contribution from an external delivery agency. The DTA says the publication of the guidance supports digital.gov.au’s development as a shared central platform for whole-of-government digital policy, standards and practical delivery guidance.
The guidance supports agencies to better understand myGov and the onboarding process, promoting more consistent and effective approaches to digital service delivery across government.
“Clear, practical guidance plays an important role in improving how digital services are delivered,” said Chris Fechner, Chief Executive Officer of the DTA. “By bringing delivery-led content onto digital.gov.au, it helps agencies translate policy intent to services that deliver better outcomes for all Australians.”
myGov is a simple and secure way for individuals to access government services through a single sign-in, using the myGov website or app. It supports how people manage and interact with government services online, including:
- secure messaging through the myGov Inbox
- account management and settings
- access to linked services
- information about government support available to help them through different life events.
Together, these capabilities support more seamless interactions with government and reduce complexity for people managing different services.
The guidance supports agencies wanting to onboard to consider more connected, safer and simpler digital experiences.
“More than 1 million Australians use myGov every day, and more than 9 million now use the myGov app. This scale gives us a strong understanding of what works in practice for customers and government service delivery,” explained Jonathon Thorpe, Chief Customer Officer at Services Australia. “myGov is available for government agencies to use at no cost. The new information published on digital.gov.au makes it easier for them to understand what myGov can do, what the onboarding process looks like, and how to get started.”
Additionally, it encourages more consistent use of myGov across government, improving how Australians interact with online government services, particularly when engaging with multiple services.
For agencies, the guidance focuses on the value of onboarding to myGov and the support available throughout the process. It demonstrates how onboarding can simplify access for users, reduce duplication and enable more connected service delivery.
The DTA says the guidance sets out the onboarding journey, from early discovery and assessment through to implementation, live operations and ongoing optimisation. This provides agencies with clarity on requirements and expectations at each stage, supporting stronger planning and delivery across the Australian Public Service (APS).
Agencies can access the new myGov guidance on digital.gov.au to better understand platform capabilities, onboarding requirements and available support.
