Queensland Health taps Sunquest for LIS
Queensland Health has contracted US-based Sunquest Information Systems and Adelaide-based back office healthcare solutions provider PowerHealth to provide a state-wide pathology laboratory information system (LIS).
The companies have secured a 10-year, $68.5 million tender to deliver an enterprise LIS and related services.
The contract covers the delivery of Sunquest’s end-to-end LIS covering all pathology disciplines including chemistry, hematology, microbiology, histopathology, cytology, blood transfusion and molecular.
PowerHealth will meanwhile provide its enterprise-wide healthcare billing application PowerBilling & Revenue Collection (PBRC), which will handle all billing functionality to the new LIS, with a focus on eliminating revenue leakage and introducing efficiencies across all pathology disciplines.
Queensland Health services comprise 124 hospitals, 70 primary health centres and clinics, 17 aged-care facilities and 33 extreme remote multipurpose health services.
“Our partnership with Sunquest will deliver more efficient diagnostic services and improve patient care and safety for Queenslanders,” Health Support Queensland COO Stuart Rodney said.
“A contemporary laboratory information system will mean faster results and improved access to patient information, so healthcare professionals can spend more time with patients. This will ensure consistent, reliable and accurate laboratory services throughout the state that enable Queensland Health’s advancement of safe, clinically effective and high-quality health services.”
“PHS aims to be the very best billing engine around the world, allowing our international partners to expand into new territories as PHS removes the risks related to the complexities associated with localised billing rules and requirements,” PowerHealth Managing Director Patrick Power added.
“We look forward to future partnerships with Sunquest, both in Australia and around the world.”
