WA Police using technology to better help DFV victims
The WA Police Force has deployed a new solution aimed at helping frontline officers improve support for victims of domestic and family violence.
The deployment involves an expansion of the PSCore app provided by technology partner Motorola Solutions. The deployment now enables officers to record a variety of incidents from the field, while automatically alerting partner agencies and support services when family violence reports are submitted.
The PSCore app has been deployed across the state’s fleet of 6500 mobile devices. WA Police first deployed the PSCore solution in March 2022. At the time, the solution was the world’s first public safety application to work with Apple CarPlay. The agency’s Family Violence Division recently won a WA Police Force Recognition of Excellence Award for the use of the solution.
WA Police Force Technology Portfolio lead Superintendent Dean Snashall said the application forms a key part of the police force’s digital policing strategy to use technology to improve productivity, incident awareness and safety.
“When police officers respond to an incident, they need accurate and relevant information to inform their decisions while keeping themselves and community members safe,” he said. “The addition of a new family violence reporting capability is another way this mobile application helps our officers to respond to different kinds of incidents.”
