ASD releases Annual Cyber Threat Report
Last week the Australian Signals Directorate’s Australian Cyber Security Centre (ASD’s ACSC) released its seventh Annual Cyber Threat Report (ACTR), which reported that during the 2025–26 financial year, the ACSC received more than 82,000 cybercrime reports, averaging one report every six minutes.
ASD also responded to more than 1500 cybersecurity incidents and provided over 4400 notifications to Australian entities about potentially malicious cyber activity, representing almost an 80% increase on the previous year.
This year’s report highlights the growing impact of AI on the cyber threat landscape. By enabling malicious cyber actors to operate with greater scale, speed and sophistication, AI is rendering cyber-attacks, scams and phishing attempts more efficient, effective and convincing.
The Australian Government’s investment in ASD through Project REDSPICE continues to enhance its cyber capabilities and services to protect the nation. From providing insight into the tactics of malicious actors, to using offensive cyber operations to dismantle criminal infrastructure used to target Australians, ASD says it is playing a vital role in supporting the nation’s security and economic prosperity.
Cybersecurity is, however, a shared responsibility and good cyber hygiene has never been more important.
The Annual Cyber Threat Report 2025–26 provides information about Australia’s current cyberthreat environment and guidance on how individuals, businesses and critical infrastructure operators can strengthen their defences.
There are also ACTR factsheets for individuals, businesses and organisations and critical infrastructure, for tailored cybersecurity advice and practical mitigation measures.
