Barracuda unveils multimodal AI threat detection tools

Cybersecurity company Barracuda Networks has unveiled new threat detection capabilities powered by multimodal AI.

The new capabilities promise adaptive, context-aware protection against emerging attacks through the analysis of a range of text and visual data types including URLs, documents and images. The company says they take advantage of the unique features of multimodal AI, which is a technology that synthesises and interprets numerous data streams in various formats, as well as Barracuda’s existing machine learning classifiers and purpose-built sandbox engine.

According to Barracuda, the new capabilities enable the company to detect more than three times as many malicious files at eight times the speed of previous models.

Barracuda VP of Advanced Technology Sunil Kumar said it is essential that businesses are provided the security capabilities that are equally intelligent and adaptive to the evolving cyberthreats that are taking advantage of AI to become more targeted, sophisticated and evasive.

“By leveraging multimodal AI, we’re taking a holistic approach to analyse different data types to identify attacks that bypass traditional models,” he said. “It’s a transformative step forward in proactive cybersecurity.”

The breakthroughs are being incorporated into the Barracuda Advanced Threat Detection suite, as well as individual tools such as Barracuda LinkProtect, which inspects URLs for hidden threats and other attacks using a virtual, isolated sandbox and browser environment.
