Agriculture tech experts to headline GRDC Update

Technology experts Robert Saik and Bret Turpin will be keynote speakers at the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) Grains Research Update in Merredin next week.

Saik, from Canada’s Agri-Trend, will discuss the role of science and technology in the 10 major trends likely to affect the agriculture industry in the next decade.

Turpin, from the USA’s Autonomous Solutions, will meanwhile address the current state of technology in farming automation and predicted future trends in this area.

The GRDC, an Australian government corporation, is inviting grain growers from the region to attend the update to allow them to access information to help them boost farm productivity and profitability.

Other speakers will include McGregor of AgVise, Nuffield scholar Nick Gillett of Bencubbin and Profarmer’s Hannah Janson.

GRDC Western Regional Panel member Jules Alvaro said the event will provide attendees with access to industry leaders at the cutting edge of agricultural research.

“Some of the topics to be discussed during the day include seeding strategies in a changing climate; soil management and acidity; and crop management,” she said.

The event will take place at the Merredin Community and Leisure Centre from 9.30 am on 9 March. The GRDC is also holding similar events in Yuna on 2 March and at Kattaning on 8 March.
