Melbourne's Vix wins ticketing deal in Dallas, USA
Melbourne-based smart ticketing and payment technology vendor Vix Technology has won a contract to implement an advanced fare payment system for Dallas Area Rapid Transit in the US.
The open-architecture fare collection system will use Vix’s eO (easy and open) account-based open payment and fare collection platform. It will support payment via NFC-enabled smartphones, transit cards and EMV contactless cards.
Larger cities are increasingly evaluating open-architecture fare collection systems due to the scalability, ease of integration and flexibility of the design.
The deal is the latest in a string of major contract wins for Vix this year alone. In July, the Malaysian Government’s public transport regulator awarded the company a contract to unify the nation’s multiple public transport operators in a single ticketing system.
In April, Rome’s public transport authority engaged the company to upgrade its existing ticketing sysem to support mobile ticketing and payments. That same month, Vix won a deal to establish a payment clearing house for Bangkok’s latest train line.
The company has provided the technology for transit networks in over 200 regions.
“The introduction of a new contactless fare collection system that maximises convenience for riders in Dallas is a sign that transit operators are embracing innovative ways to improve customer experience and drive increased ridership,” Vix America’s general manager, Doug Thomas, said.
