Treasury upgrades networks with SDN
Treasury has upgraded its networks with SDN to improve productivity and operational resilience.
The department has installed Avaya’s software-designed network architecture SDN Fx to support its operations, including producing the Federal Budget.
As part of the initial stages of the implementation, Treasury has introduced network-wide IPTV live streams of parliamentary sittings. This has replaced a legacy network that often struggled to manage hundreds of streams.
In addition, the network provides staff with access to key applications including Treasury’s Budget management system and other economic and tax modelling software.
“As we upgrade to Avaya SDN Fx architecture, we can take on more services and provide the speed and reliability enabling greater efficiency for our staff in fulfilling their roles,” Treasury CTO Ricardo Alberto said.
“The teams work on strict deadlines, so it’s extremely important they can access data and all the resources they need to inform their reports. With these capabilities, we can ensure that critical documents, such as the Budget, are delivered on time.”
He said Avaya was selected following an extensive evaluation process of networking technologies based on government eligibility criteria.
