Budding AI experts summoned to solve defence challenges
Budding artificial intelligence (AI) specialists throughout Australia are being summoned to address key national security and defence challenges — as part of the recently launched Artificial Intelligence for Decision Making initiative.
Led by the ADF and the Office of National Security, the initiative will offer funding of up to $20,000 for selected individuals. Funding recipients will then undertake a three-month project, using AI technology to solve a predefined issue in this space.
The Chief of Joint and Operations Analysis Division within the Defence Science and Technology Group, Dr Lynn Booth, said the initiative could make a profound contribution to the sector, potentially generating “leap-ahead” technologies.
‘‘By really focusing the efforts of our AI community on these specific challenges, we are confident that the initiative will deliver critical enhancements to our decision-making ability,” she said.
