Councils surveyed about communications plans
The federal Department of Communications and the Arts is asking councils to provide information on their planning requirements for telecommunications services in new real estate developments.
According to a department circular, it has received a "small number of complaints from members of the public who have moved into new developments but find their developer has not arranged telecommunications infrastructure. This causes them inconvenience and may lead to additional costs."
The department said that "understanding what requirements councils already have in place will help the department to develop measures to address this issue and allow councils to see how they compare to their peers".
