NZ's EECA appoints new CEO
New Zealand’s Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority (EECA) has appointed James Hay as its new CEO, effective from mid-January.
The government agency has selected Hay to replace long-serving CEO Mike Underhill, who is retiring next month after nearly 10 years in the role.
Hay is currently Network General Manager–Motorways for NSW’s Roads and Maritime Services, where he is overseeing Sydney’s $16.8 billion Westconnex motorway scheme.
He has also served roles including CEO of New Zealand electricity company Meridian Energy and director of Cloud M Limited, as well as roles at Christchurch-based civil engineering company Central Plains Water and the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA).
“James has an impressive background spanning the energy, transport and public sectors, working with infrastructure and energy businesses, and with community-facing organisations,” EECA Chair Tom Campbell said.
“This is an excellent fit for EECA, which is a government agency known for its expertise in working across all sectors of the economy.”
EECA is responsible for promoting energy efficiency and conservation in New Zealand. The agency was set up in 1992 and became a Crown Entity in 2000.
