Tasmania awards electric vehicle charging grants
The Tasmanian Government has awarded $50,000 in grants for electric vehicle charging station deployments.
The government's ChargeSmart program provides one-off funding of up to $5000 for workplaces to install charging stations for use by their employees, in order to encourage uptake of electric vehicles.
The grants will see charging stations installed across a variety of workplaces including local government offices, schools, a government business enterprise and private business.
Recipients include local government areas the City of Launceston, Meander Valley Council, Central Coast Council, Cradle Coast Authority and Huon Valley Council.
The University of Tasmania's Newnham, Cradle Coast and Sandy Bay campuses, the Department of Education Launceston College, the Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority and the Royal Automobile Club of Tasmania will also receive grants.
The ChargeSmart initiative forms part of the state government's Climate Change Action Plan for 2017–2021, and is aimed at reducing emissions in the transport sector, cutting transport costs and helping to improve Tasmania's energy security.
