Oracle launches government cloud in Canberra
Oracle has announced the launch of Oracle Cloud for Australian Government and Defence, a new dedicated cloud region in Canberra.
The new cloud platform will be reserved for use by the Australian public sector. It has passed the Information Security Registered Assessors (IRAP) program to allow the storage of data up to the PROTECTED classification level.
The solution will provide government customers with access to a range of over 100 cloud services, while remaining physically isolated from Oracle’s other public and government cloud regions.
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure supports private and public sector organisations globally by offering a wide range of distributed cloud deployment options including dedicated regions and Exadata Cloud@Customer, for situations where data proximity and low latency are of critical importance to customers.
ACT Government Chief Minister Andrew Barr said the territory government welcomes Oracle’s investment in the new cloud capacity. “The cloud region will be an important addition to our city’s digital infrastructure and adds to the depth and breadth of the capabilities that our cybersecurity sector can offer,” he said.
Oracle Regional Managing Director Stephen Bovis added that the addition of the new government cloud reinforces Oracle’s commitment to delivering a secure, scalable and high-performing cloud platform and business applications.
“The Australian federal government has budgeted more than US$1.3 billion for digital and ICT in its 2023–24 budget, and we’re committed to helping strengthen Australia’s digital economy. Australia’s private and public sectors have trusted Oracle to help accelerate innovation for more than two decades,” he said.
“With the new region, public sector organisations can now bring their most important workloads and applications to the cloud, helping drive organisational growth while delivering improved services to Australian citizens.”
