SAP expands Australian sovereign cloud offering

SAP has expanded its Australian sovereign cloud capabilities through initiatives including launching its SAP Sovereign Cloud On-Site solution in the market. The On-Site model gives customers the ability to host SAP’s managed cloud infrastructure in their own facilities for greatly enhanced physical control and data residency.

The company has also enhanced its sovereign cloud capabilities in ANZ with the SAP Digital Supply Chain, SAP Business Network and SAP Concur solutions.

The expansion builds on SAP’s existing launch of sovereign capabilities for SAP S/4HANA Cloud private edition, SAP SuccessFactors, SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP Business Technology Platform in 2023.

SAP plans to also introduce sovereign cloud capabilities for SAP Business Data Cloud, SAP AI Services, SAP Fieldglass and SAP Ariba, starting from next year. Sovereign cloud capabilities have also launched for governments and heavily regulated industries in the US, UK and Canada, and further expansions are planned across Europe.

SAP ANZ EGM of Federal Government Brian Senior said governments and regulated industries across the region are facing increasing regulatory, security and sovereignty requirements.

“Sovereign cloud is not just about where data sits. It’s about who controls it, protects it and how confidently government and industry can modernise and innovate knowing their digital foundations are secure and compliant,” he said. “By expanding our sovereign cloud services to cover areas like procurement and supply chain on top of finance and HR, we’re ensuring critical data stays protected and managed within Australia.

“For citizens and businesses, that provides a greater sense of trust in the security, reliability and innovation of the digital services they depend on every day.”

SAP says its sovereign cloud capabilities meet the data, operational, legal and technical sovereignty requirements of government and highly regulated industries, providing managed services and cloud solutions to Australian and New Zealand customers within the sovereign borders of Australia.

“The expansion of SAP Sovereign Cloud capabilities is just one part of our ongoing investment in the Australian public sector,” Senior added. “We’ve been working with Australia’s government departments for more than 35 years. This is just another commitment to investing in the success of the Australian public sector today and for the long-term.”
