SCCANZ to launch Smart Cities Readiness Challenge

Smart Cities Council Australia New Zealand (SCCANZ) will next week launch the Smart Cities Readiness Challenge in the two markets.

The Readiness Challenge has been developed by the global umbrella organisation Smart Cities Council and is being expanded outside of North America for the first time.

It involves an intensive two-day incubator program as well as post-incubator mentoring designed to help government organisations build the leadership technical capacity required for delivering effective smart cities investments.

SCCANZ plans to hold incubators in Sydney, Perth and New Zealand throughout July and August.

Participants will be selected based on a competitive application process, with 10–12 cities and agencies expected to be invited to participate. Selection criteria include an organisation’s readiness to take their smart city journey to the next level.

The Readiness Incubator comprises a two-day training session based on the council’s Smart Cities Readiness Guide. Teams of up to 6–8 staff from local or state government agencies will participate in multiple structured learning rounds.

These sessions will include conference-style presentations, mobile workshops, facilitated workshop sessions and report-outs.

The incubator is designed to encourage deep knowledge exchange and learning, supported by social networking-style forums to allow project teams to build relationships and communicate with guest speakers and content specialists.
