Vic installing telepresence in state schools

The Victorian government will install new virtual conferencing systems in 63 government schools across the Geelong, Surf Coast and Bellarine Peninsula region as part of the first phase of a $67.9 million IT support upgrade project for schools across the state.

Nine schools in the region will also have their internet bandwidth doubled as part of a $16.4 million investment to improve regional connectivity across Victoria.

This investment will ensure all schools in the area will have the same internet speeds as their metropolitan counterparts.

The state budget also included more than $21 million to upgrade the infrastructure 15 schools in the area as part of the government’s wider $2.5 billion investment in education.

“Kids in Geelong and the Surf Coast will be the first in Victoria to benefit from this huge investment, which will give students the skills they will need for the jobs of the future,” Victorian Minister for Education James Merlino said.

“The upgrades will ensure local students get a first-rate digital education.”
