Telstra named Medibank's sole telecom provider

Telstra has secured a three-year, multimillion dollar contract to become Medibank Private's exclusive telecom partner.

With the deal, Medibank has consolidated its eight previous telecom service suppliers down to a single provider. The companies said this consolidation is expected to save the health insurance provider 37% on its telecom expenses.

Under the contract, Telstra will refresh Medibank's local and wide-area network equipment. The telecom provider will also provide enterprise mobility services, as well as a managed cloud-based collaborative communications service over Skype for Business.

Besides the health insurance operations, Telstra will provide the telecom services for Medibank's complementary services, including its health management and telehealth services.

Medibank has also become the first customer to implement Telstra's Mobile Business Fleet Plus range of mobile devices and plans designed specifically for business customers.

“As a diverse and far-reaching business, we depend on our telecommunications to support our members and to provide critical health advice to Australians when they need it most," Medibank COO David Koczkar said.

“Our new, enhanced partnership with Telstra means we can streamline and consolidate our network into one provider, transforming the customer experience."
