ACT Govt confirms security breach
The ACT Government has confirmed it is responding to a security breach. An investigation confirmed a breach that affected the Barracuda email gateway system that supports the government’s ICT systems.
Barracuda identified a vulnerability in its Email Security Gateway and issued a notification on 24 May. The ACT Cyber Security Centre investigated and detected the potential vulnerability as being present. It immediately rebuilt the impacted system and eliminated any ongoing vulnerability.
An ongoing assessment is underway to understand the full impact to systems and to data that may have been accessed. The ACT Government said it is confident that actions taken have contained the breach and that there is no ongoing threat, assuring Canberrans they can continue to use online government systems with confidence.
Weekly updates on this matter will be issued and information can be found at accesscanberra.act.gov.au.
