NSW appoints first GCISO

The NSW Government has appointed former AUSTRAC CISO and chief innovation officer Dr Maria Milosavljevic as the state’s first government chief information security officer (GCISO).

In her new role, Milosavljevic will work across the government and consult with industry leaders and research groups to ensure a collaborative approach to cybersecurity.

She will develop a set of standards with state government agencies to streamline the security approach across government.

Prior to joining AUSTRAC, Milosavljevic was CIO and CISO at the Australian Crime Commission. She has also held a series of private sector roles as well as the position of adjunct professor at the University of Canberra.

“I’m excited to welcome Dr Milosavljevic as the new GCISO and I look forward to working with her on strengthening the NSW government cybersecurity network,” NSW Minister for Finance, Services and Property Victor Dominello said.

“Cyber risk and security has emerged as one of the most high-profile, borderless and rapidly evolving risks facing government, so the GCISO position is vital to strengthening the NSW Government’s cybersecurity.”

Milosavljevic’s appointment follows the selection in May last year of the state’s first government chief information and digital officer, Damon Rees.
