Super SA systems project over budget
A 12-year contract to replace South Australia’s public service superannuation provider Super SA’s computing system is already nearly $17 million over budget, according to the state’s Treasurer, Rob Lucas.
An independent review of the project indicates that it could end up costing $20.1 million more than the initial $24.4 million price tag, Lucas said.
The project was awarded to global software company DST Bluedoor in 2014 but has been subject to unexpected problems and significant delays, the review found.
When the first stage of the project went live in May, major system issues caused “significant problems” to many users, Lucas said.
The announcement came shortly after the state government revealed it is “reviewing its options” over an ICT equipment procurement and support project signed last year that the government claims has already seen its budget blow out by $48 million.
“Just when we think we’ve unearthed the full extent of Labor’s mess and gross financial incompetence, up springs another calamity,” Lucas said.
“The independent review into the project was damning, highlighting major failures underpinned by a lack of superannuation project expertise in terms of managing the project.”
He said the CEO of SuperSA is in commercial negotiations with DST Bluedoor to resolve the issues with the project.
