Celebrate technology at the SingularityU Australia Summit
How can we overcome the world’s greatest challenges and create positive social change simultaneously? By embracing technology!
Technology is advancing faster than ever before, in ways that were once thought impossible. SingularityU is here to celebrate this revolution. The SingularityU Summit is coming to Australia this October to educate, empower and excite individuals and organisations on breakthrough technologies which are transforming human lives.
SingularityU focuses on technologies in education, health, environment, security, energy, prosperity, governance, food, water and employment. The summit aims to create a space where individuals can learn, create and become connected through exponential technologies such as robotics, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), sensory biology and more.
Singularity University was founded in the US in 2008 by entrepreneurs Ray Kurzweil and Peter Diamandis. The pair’s mission was to engage and inspire communities to use technology to tackle the world’s greatest challenges. They established a fast growing, international community of entrepreneurs, businesses, not-for-profits, investors and institutions offering courses, summits and a variety of programs. The common thread? Using technology as a resource to create positive change.
The vision of Singularity University has been brought to Australia by two powerhouse women, Christina Gerakiteys (pictured above) and Lisa Andrews (pictured below), after they witnessed how empowering, collaborative and global the movement has been. The dynamic duo has a shared passion for creating sustainable, positive global change by utilising technology. As a result of their passion and determination, have been named faculty members for SingularityU after undertaking training in Amsterdam in June this year.
Lisa and Christina, together with Singularity University, have also launched SingularityU Australia, becoming the first Country Partner in the Pacific Region. SingularityU Australia will also be the first Country Partnership to be led by an all-female executive team.
“Lisa and I are incredibly excited to be launching this initiative in Australia. We believe that technology has the ability to assist us to build a better future for everyone,” said Christina, Co-CEO SingularityU Australia. “We aim to transform the current fear rhetoric around technology and change, to enable our leaders to deploy new capabilities at exponential speeds.”
The Australian SingularityU Summit includes keynotes on Education, Energy, Environment, Wellness and Social Justice. These were the challenges identified through several workshops that took place around Australia to determine which of the Global Grand Challenges Australians were most concerned about.
The 3-day summit will host a range of internationally recognised speakers, scientists, innovators and thought leaders who will each share their ideas, stories and inventions. Biomedical Engineer, Dr Jordan Nguyen (pictured below), will showcase his new technologies at the summit, which include social robotics for aged care, inclusive mixed reality games, virtual avatar technologies and a range of eye-controlled and brainwave-controlled software for people with disabilities. The 2017 Australian of the Year finalist is passionate about creating superhuman technology to improve our quality of life.
Exponential thought leader and technology visionary, Anuraj Gambhir will also be featured at the SingularityU Australia Summit. Anuraj’s focus is on exponential technology applications including emerging smart devices/hardware with a strong emphasis on Wearable-tech, IoT, AI, multimedia convergence, 3D Visualisation, Human-Nature Interface (HNI) and more. Anuraj aspires to develop solutions that make a difference in under-privileged communities around the world by humanising technology — transforming digital divides to massive opportunities.
Another speaker at this life-transforming event is Elena Toufani, CEO of T Labs and futurepreneur. Elena’s talk will delve into longevity research and the effects that will have on individuals and society.
These thought-leaders are only a small portion of the extraordinary minds that will be sharing their insights at this one of a kind event. The event will showcase the latest technological advancements and what they mean for Australia and the world. There will be on-stage conversations and debates to shape the future of education, sustainability and inclusivity and round table discussions to ideate solutions to the 12 Global Challenges.
“We Australians have always been very innovative out of necessity. We are now in a unique position to give focus to that innovative spirit and be a leading voice in the global impact conversation,” said Lisa Andrews, Co-CEO of SingularityU Australia.
An interactive technology lab for participants to test the latest innovations will provide the hands-on experience delegates will need to validate the reality of the whole summit experience.
Science and technology are at the forefront of everyday life and are transforming the way we live and interpret reality. Significant breakthroughs in health and biology, communication and entertainment have redefined knowledge in these categories and have paved the way for future discoveries and inventions. Full haptic suits that mimic real fire situations, cancer research acceleration with 3D bioprinting of living cells and research on how to slow down or reverse the ageing process are some of these tech breakthroughs. It may seem that these remarkable developments are a science fiction fantasy, but they already exist and will be showcased at the summit.
These technologies have the power to overcome the world’s greatest challenges while simultaneously creating positive social change. Many of the world’s greatest challenges are also the world’s biggest business opportunities.
Technology is accelerating at an exponential rate, in ways that were once thought impossible. The need to shift our mindset from an industrial era of scarcity and linear thinking to one of abundance and exponential thinking is more urgent than ever.
The SingularityU Australia Summit aims to educate, empower and excite individuals and organisations on breakthrough technologies which are transforming all aspects of human life. The Tech Hub and Stage at the Summit will showcase a variety of exponential technologies, which can be touched, seen and experienced in a fully immersive way.
The SingularityU Australia Summit will be held in Sydney at the ICC on 22nd – 23rd October.
